Step 1 - Get A Free Blogger Blog

I'm using this to document how to set up a free videoblog. I'll take you through creating your own free website/blog, using Flickr for free image hosting, and the Internet Archive for free video hosting.

So, step 1 is to get yourself a free Blogger blog. Go to blogger.com, create an account, set up your blog and make your first post. Pretty easy so far.

Here is the link to my tutorial on how to set up a free Blogger blog.

Step 2 - Set Up Free Image Hosting With Flickr

This is a photo of Dylan, Me and Ryanne from Vloggercon. I uploaded it to Flickr and set up my Flickr account to post to this blog. Pretty cool.

Here's a tutorial on setting up a Flickr account, uploading a photo and then blogging it.

Step 3 - Upload Your Video To The Internet Archive

First I blogged this video screenshot from Flickr. Then I set up an account at the Internet Archive and I used the Creative Commons Publisher Tool to select a creative commons liscence and upload the video to the Internet Archive. It takes about 24 hours for them to approve it and give it a URL. To finish up, I logged back into Blogger and edited this post to link to the URL that was assigned to the video.

Set up an account at the Internet Archive (you don't need another "how to fill out a form" tutorial do you?)
Info on Creative Commons
Download ccPublisher tool

Now use ccPublisher to choose a Creative Commons liscense and upload your video to the Internet Archive. This is easy - just fill in the blanks and upload. Then wait a day and go back to the Internet Archive and log-in with your email address and password. You'll see a link near the top of the page called "Contributions." Click that an check on the status of your video. If it's online you can follow the links to download it. Copy it's URL and go back to Blogger and add it to your post. Okay, that's a lot of stuff so I made another tutorial.

Step 4 - Create An RSS Feed With Enclosures

Now that you've posted some video, you'll want people to be able to subscribe to your website and automatically download your videos with tools like ANT and Mefeedia. To do this we're going to run the Atom feed that Blogger creates by default, through FeedBurner.

Tutorial on how to burn your feed with FeedBurner and add the little FeedBurner "chicklet" to your Blogger template.

Okay, now that you've got your RSS feed all set up you need to tell people at ANT and Mefeedia about it.
Click here to add your feed to Mefeedia.
ANT is still working on their directory. In the meantime, go to del.icio.us and set up an acount. Then post the URL of your feed and tag it "antfeeds".

Step 5 - Join The Community

Now that you're a videoblogger (not that it's a requirement) you should join the Videoblogging Yahoo Group. Once you're in, introduce yourself and post your URL and RSS feed so we can check you out. Also, use the contact form at Videoblogging.info to let us now about your site. Be sure to send us your NAME,URL, and a DESCRIPTION of you/your work so you can be listed with all the other videobloggers.

Lastly, you must recite the following: I _________ do solemnly promise to post video regularly. I promise to post video even if I don't really have time to or even if I really need to get some sleep. Also, I promise to teach others to videoblog or at the very least, point them over here when they get inspired from watching my videos.
